Sticking to the sanitiser facts you may never have known

For most of 2020 since the coronavirus struck, hand sanitiser has never left our pockets and purses and has become part of a necessity. Our new ritual sees us sanitising our hands every minute, but with most sanitisers in the market, they leave a sticky residue and we did not have much choice.

Whilst they are many fast-drying hand sanitiser and the variety of hand sanitisers available, most still leaves our hands dry and cracking.

Fun facts on some hand sanitising and why it’s important to sanitise our hands as part of our daily routine.

  • The World Health Organization suggests that the best way to rid your hands of germs is not to wash them with soap and water but to rather “clean your hands by rubbing them with an alcohol-based formulation. It is faster, more effective, and better tolerated by your hands than washing with soap and water.”
  • With brands launching their version of hand sanitisers, not all are created equal – some have variations of ethanol some as low as 20%. The World Health Organisation standard is 80% alcohol ethanol which is proven to kill 99.9% of the germs and bacteria. Our Shmoist Hand Sanitiser is made with 80% ethanol.
  • There’s actually a preferred technique to using hand sanitisers. Who knew? Here are some tips; Once you’ve sprayed it (we suggest two sprays per application, one for each hand), start by spraying in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together spreading your fingers whilst rotating your hands clenched together in opposite direction. When in doubt, simply spritz, rub, inhale and you’re good to go.
  • So now that you’ve spritzed, you’re probably wondering “how does it actually sanitise?” hand sanitisers work on friction, so an alcohol-based sanitiser which contains more than 65% alcohol has a very low boiling point so by rubbing your hands together and between your fingers, heat is generated due to friction. When the heat evaporates the alcohol and other particles, it takes the germs particles with them. Hello clean hands!

Shmoist hand sanitiser was created to not only moisturise your hands but we have redesigned the packaging, scent and making sure hand sanitising is fun and trendy!
